Coalinga
December 18, 2004

We began with coffee - arriving for the journey were Dona (our newest official DC member), CC, Real, Shirley, Todd, and Tyler. The day was looking a bit overcast at the beginning but our steadfastness in moving forward paid off. The skies cleared and the temperatures rose. Our ride took us south, via 25 - always a treat to ride - and 198 - what a beauty of a stretch of road! A true motorcyclist's treat - long wide sweepers with great sight lines and wonderful pavement. We ended in Coalinga at Perko's for lunch... the last time we had been here was in the summertime so the difference in temperature was duly noted!

After lunch, we headed off to Los Gatos-Coalinga Rd., another great road - the first half is extremely well paved until you reach the sign that says you're in San Benito County and then it's a bit more patchwork quilt paving... but not too bad to travel upon. We stopped along the road for some photo ops as the sun was just starting to set and we came across a field of barren trees that were a little piece of Mother Nature's artwork to witness. When we reached the end of the road at 25, we stopped for a butt (tush, derriere, etc.) break and, at that point, the temperature was downright balmy. I was very tempted to shed a layer or two but remembered one of the rules of the road - warm standing still is not warm riding fast!

We continued back along 25 when I noticed I couldn't see all the headlights of the group in my rear view mirror, hence, we pulled over. Dona was experiencing some technical difficulties after we had a spirited jaunt along a straightaway... her bike was sputtering a bit and making some strange noises but seemed to be okay to push forward. We reached Tres Pinos for a final stop and, as the sun was setting in the west, bid a fond adieu to one another (as well as the promise to check in once everyone reached home safely - especially Dona!) and headed for our respective homes. Ah, a winter in California - can't beat it!!

Peace,

Tyler
