Sacramento Delta
April 30, 2005

Todd's new lookWhat a great turnout for a ride! Thirteen bikes, one convertible (complete with built in Aussie), and a dog! Rob, nursing a dislocated shoulder from a dirt bike get off, showed up in his car with Bella, his canine companion. Audrey attended on her newly acquired BMW RT and there was much oohing and aahing as she arrived. Nothing like a new bike to get folks all a twitter!

We started out from Fremont and made a quick pit stop to pick up more of our merry band in Livermore before heading off for the Delta with our parade in tow. The day was slightly overcast and cool so it kept everyone in good spirits. We stopped off in Brentwood for gas, nature breaks, and lots of chatting! The temp was warming up so Audrey decided to cut off the long sleeves of her t-shirt to keep cool (later in the day, when it cooled off again, she then ended up duct taping the sleeves back on – such a fashion statement!).

Finally, we reached the Delta and traveled along 160, the river running alongside of us the entire way. The roads along here are soothing and relaxing as they don’t really challenge one when it comes to technical turns… it’s very meditative! We lunched at Al the Wops in Locke, well known for their steak sandwiches! When we first arrived, the place was packed with all kinds of cruisers who were on a poker run… I was a little panicked thinking it would take hours for us to get some food but the majority of the run attendees were pretty much hanging out in the bar so we had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves.

After lunch, the boys troubleshot Karen’s bike which appeared to be leaking some sort of fluid. Didn’t seem to be anything really bad so we sallied forth from there returning pretty much the same direction. The crowd was not ready to head straight back however, so we took a side journey along Marsh Creek Rd. and up the back entrance to Mt. Diablo to enjoy the twisties and views along the way.

We finally came to rest at the final gas stop at Diablo Rd. and 680, taking our time to hit the big super slab and end the day’s ride. We took a couple of final photos of our group (check out the station attendant in the background – what a ham! Lol) and then saddled up for the journey home. Another day, another ride, another set of wonderful memories to file away!

Peace,

Tyler
