Filoli Gardens and Half Moon Bay
March 5, 2005

photoA bit behind the 8-ball so the report will be short and sweet since it’s been awhile and my memory ain’t what it used to be!! If anyone on the ride has any memories they’d like to share, please do! Basically, we rode. The sun was shining. Filoli Shmiloli. We took some pictures. We rode some more. We ate lunch. We rode home.

Okay, a few more details… the day was absofrickinglutely GORGEOUS!! The previous week had many naysayers bowing out since they thought it was going to rain and boy did they miss out on a beautiful spring day. We started with our support of the local Starbucks with a nice sized group – Cheryl, CC, Bill, Mo (aka Maureen, hereinafter dubbed SheMo to avoid confusion with Morris – who had the nerve to rsvp that he’d be there but didn’t show - now dubbed HeMo), Brad, Nancy, Audrey, Baljit, first-timer CJ, and CC’s folks decided to find out who these people were that they’d been hearing so much about and joined us via 4-wheels in their Mustang convertible (next best thing to 2-wheels!).

We headed off for Hwy. 9 to Skyline and stopped at the vista point to enjoy the lovely view of the Bay Area. From there, we headed down 84 to Canada Rd. and came to rest at Filoli Gardens, where we were met by Pamela and Don. The gardens are very close to 280 off of Edgewood Rd. to Canada Rd. Most people don’t even know it’s there but it’s a beautiful property and a treat to walk through and enjoy all the amazing greenery and colorful blooms, which vary depending on what time of year you visit.

We took off on our own walking tour through the main house and surrounding gardens, witnessing spectacularly groomed grounds, flowers, blooming trees, archways, pools, and all under blue, blue skies and the sun beaming down on us all. After a couple of hours, the troops were getting hungry (nothing worse than cranky, hungry motorcyclists!) so it was time to journey on.

We broke up into two groups – half heading for Kings Mtn. Rd. and Tunitas Creek and the other half sticking to 84 and Skyline but all heading for Half Moon Bay for lunch. Originally, we were going to try to go to the HMB Roasting Company (had gotten a recommendation from a fellow rider) but it was too crowded so we ended up scooting out to Cameron’s and supping there. From there, everyone headed off in their own direction for parts home.

Audrey and I weren’t quite ready to make a beeline home so we headed south on Hwy 1 to Stage Rd, Pescadero Rd, and back up 84 for a pit stop and bike ogling session up at Alice’s. Then there was so much traffic coming over 84 and headed down into Woodside, Audrey and I HAD to keep riding to avoid all that mess (really, we were forced to... that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!) – so we headed off via Skyline to 9, Pierce Rd., Mt. Eden Rd., stopped for a last moment at the reservoir to reminisce over the day and watch the sky change colors as the sun set.

It was yet another wonderful adventure with great people… more memories to file away – I think my brain needs more bandwidth! J The riding season is upon us so looking forward to seeing everyone soon!!

Peace,

Tyler
