Uvas Reservoir & Watsonville
January 22, 2005

photoThe day dawned very foggy and wet… but dammit, we were going to ride if it killed us (luckily it didn’t). When I arrived at Starbucks in Westgate, I was surprised to find Iris and Maureen already there sipping away at their coffee – a DC first – someone got there before me! Joining us were CC, Cheryl, Larie, Nancy S., Nancy (Larie’s friend), and Baljit, who pulled in just in the nick of time to be the day’s solo Road Crew member before we headed out. Bill joined us for coffee only but probably wondered if that had been such a good idea since he seemed to be the focus of the morning’s ribbings… as he made some sort of smart aleck comment, I socked him in the arm. I think it was Maureen who came up with the idea of a fundraiser – “Beat Bill for a Buck”!

We headed out Saratoga Ave., down Hwy 9 to Los Gatos Blvd. and a right onto Shannon Rd. The fog was extremely thick and it was difficult to even see the bikes behind me at certain points – just these ghostly headlights shining out of the fog! We crested one hill and all of a sudden there was blue sky and sun… glorious… only to descend back into the fog once more. We took our time and, finally reaching Uvas Reservoir, we were rewarded with blue skies that stayed and lots of sun. Everyone chatted in the parking lot and did their best lizard impressions at soaking up the sun. Iris took advantage of the break and tried out a couple of other bikes on for size as she zoomed around the parking lot. Baljit had to head back home from there so we became an true estrogen ride.

From there we journeyed out to 152, through Mt. Madonna Park and over Hecker Pass, finally alighting in Watsonville for lunch at Cilantro’s, a great Mexican restaurant. We all chatted about our lives beyond motorcycling and celebrated Larie’s birthday complete with cake, candle, and song. Originally, the route was scheduled to go back inland but, since it was so beautiful out by the coast, we deferred to stay on Hwy. 1 for awhile and then head back for home via Hwy. 9, stopping at Four Corners for our final yack fest. Great day, great people – it’s what we love the best!

Peace,

Tyler
