Member Meeting / Filoli Gardens
March 4, 2006

Todd's new look

We started the day with our annual member meeting – 12 ladies in all invaded the Flames Restaurant in Santa Clara (Note to self: 2 hours is plenty of time for breakfast and a meeting!!), including a few new faces amongst all the old farts, um, I mean, regular members. The restaurant even remembered us from last year so we’re becoming famous (or is that infamous?)! J  A brief recap of the meeting:

Þ      Officer elections were held
o        President – Tyler Risk
o        Vice President – Cris Cearing
o        Secretary – Natalie Bybee
o        Treasurer – Dona Neilson
Þ      Annual dues were paid
Þ      We decided instead of doing birthday emails and rides, that we’ll do an UN-birthday
ride once a year to celebrate everyone!
Þ      Need some volunteers to post up DC flyers at shops/stores – the ones we put up awhile ago are looking kind of ratty from what I’ve heard. I’ve uploaded the flyer on the Yahoo group site so feel free to print it out and drop it off at your favorite m’cycle store!

Þ      The idea of a fundraiser to benefit a friend’s 19-year old son who broke his neck and is now a paraplegic was discussed. Need volunteers to assist in planning and implementing. Any takers?
Þ      Another parking lot day with an MSF instructor was given a hearty thumbs up. We
also have a newbie ride coming up on Saturday, April 15th.

After feasting on our breakfast goodies, CC, Dona, and April, and I sat around for an hour waiting to see if any of the Road Crew would show up to join us for the ride (I had allotted 3 hours for the breakfast and meeting which obviously was too much time!!). None did so we donned our riding apparel and headed for Filoli Gardens. The weather was cool but clear and the sun even broke out to greet us. We jumped onto 280 and then did some local backroads – Page Mill, Arastradero, Alpine, Page Mill, Old Mountain Home through Woodside, and finally Cañada Road where Filoli Gardens is located.

We parked the bikes and headed in to tour the grounds. Every season is different at Filoli so what is blooming at any specific time is different as well. Last year when we visited, there were thousands of daffodils everywhere. This year we either hit it too late or too early as they were not nearly as abundant. There were some lovely pansies, lots of tulips, and always beautiful views of the grounds and structures. Gotta find out when the roses are in bloom because I’ll bet that is a sight to behold!

We dawdled a bit and then reversed our route and headed for home.  It was a short day trip but nice to get out on two wheels amidst all of this rain we’ve been having. Looking forward to sunny days soon and lots of (s)miles!!

Peace,

Tyler
